Let Me Tell You A little About Me: (your short form bio appreciated)
Derick “Tremmy" Hinds born in Jonestown grew up Trench Town. A self taught musician from the USA School of Music. His love for music came at an early age for Derick and he was destined to become a musician with the love he had for the Trombone. He then attended the Jamaica School of Music the trombone teacher was Captain Ted Wade. He was also Director of Music in the Jamaica Defense Force. He was able to help him secure a position in the Jamaica Military Band. Bandmaster was Joe Williams. In ‘72 Williams sent the young musician for a course to attend the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall. The best Military School in the British Commonwealth. The first Band he played with is Conscious Minds. Band members were Ken Boothe, Joe White, BB Seaton and The Gaylads, Morris Roberts, Bassist Derick “Tremmy Hinds” born in Jonestown grew up Derrick Stewart, Drums - Arnold Brackenridge, Trumpet - Clive “Black Moses Scott”, Trumpet - Winston Graham, Tenor Sax; and Derick Hinds, Trombone. Also played with the Skaterlights, who started the Ska and Rock beat, then toured with them to Chicago which he felt was a huge privilege for him. His favorite musician was the late, Don Drummond, one of the world’s greatest trombonist. Throughout his musical career Derick Hinds has played with many musicians Byron Lee, Sly & Robbie The Fab Five, Freddie MacGregor, Marcia Griffiths, Carlene Davis at the Pegasus Hotel in Jamaica, also King Benj-I , Teddy Brown, John Holt and Jr. Holt. and Bob Marley, a legend while living and after. “My Jamaican Girl” by BB Seaton, with Conscious Minds Band was his first big hit and one of the Gaylads biggest hit sellers. Also “Baltimore” by the Tamlins with Sly & Robbie. One of his biggest performances was at Super Bowl XIII Half Time Show Special in Miami, to a crowd of 85,000 in1979. After that he went on tour with Soul Syndicate band to Monterey Jazz Festival in San Francisco. In 1980 he came to New York to reside and pursue his musical career he played with the following bands: Marty Butler, The Keystone Band, Emperor’s Choice, Calabash and Realistics.
